Assessment

Assessment can be viewed as a process of learning which begins with the formation of learning objectives and continues with the development of instructional strategies and practices to help students meet those objectives. The term assessment is used to describe the various methods educators use to help students learn and measure students progress and achievement. To assess student learning and reflect on their teaching practice, teachers will design various methods for measuring student learning and then interpret the data derived from assessments to inform and adjust instruction. There are four main types of assessments categorized by the Pennsylvania State Department of Education in the Standards Aligned System: Summative, Formative, Benchmark and Diagnostic. All four of these types of assessments provide valuable information for educators and students to improve student performance and meet student learning goals.
